Science

Science is a way of discovering what is in the universe and how those things work today, how they worked in the past, and how they are likely to work in the future. The knowledge generated by science is powerful and reliable. It can be used to develop new technologies, treat diseases, and deal with many other sorts of problems.

Intent

We aim to provide an enriched, creative, inspiring curriculum which ensures that all pupils:

  • develop and retain scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding, as well as an innate awe and curiosity of the world around them.
  • develop understanding of science through different types of enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them.
  • understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave and analyse causes.
  • develop the confidence and skills to become rational thinkers, and independent learners.
  • are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future, including moral implications.
  • are encouraged to aim high, having high expectations and aspirations of themselves.
  • develop positive values and attitudes (including the importance of teamwork, respect of health and safety and the opinions of others).
